The principal of Global Strategies, R. Barry Spaulding, has spent his professional career as an international banking executive, international consultant and appointed public official for New York State.

Educated in Asian Studies at the University of California and Chinese University of Hong Kong, Mr. Spaulding received his Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University School of International Affairs with an emphasis on Economic Development and International Finance. Trained on Wall Street in international banking, he joined the First National Bank of Chicago, the first American bank in China, in 1980. Resident in Beijing from 1982-83, he managed the representative office for First Chicago there. In 1983, he joined Chase Manhattan Bank as Vice President in charge of the bank’s New York China Group, responsible for all commercial, trade and correspondent banking activities with the People’s Republic of China. In addition, the China Group acted in a consulting and advisory capacity for a number of Fortune 500 firms and was directly involved in negotiations for many of the early U.S. joint venture investments in China.

In 1995, Mr. Spaulding established Global Strategies, to provide consulting, advisory services and cross cultural training and coaching to business and public sector entities in the United States and overseas. A Mandarin speaker, Mr. Spaulding has also written and spoken extensively on various aspects of Chinese and Asian business affairs as well as international business in general.
