Course Description

In this lesson, ExecSense and CTM of Columbia University examine why change is the biggest issue for CIOs today and how technology leaders can become innovation enablers. Take the 60 minutes to view this session to learn why “tech” should be synonymous with “innovative” and how to use passion to ignite development.

This 7-chapter lesson is led by expert, Nick Donofrio (Fellow Emeritus and EVP Innovation and Technology [Ret.]) and focuses on the nature of value creation, the importance of developing skills instead of mere credentials, and the tremendous, untapped potential of social media.

In this 60-minute session, CIOs will learn:

  • The difference between “leaders” and “maintainers,” and how to increase your capacity for change, inspire your team, turn your detractors into supporters, and ultimately, enable innovation
  • A comprehensive analysis of historical innovators like Steve Jobs and how to recognize the difference between innovation and invention, and why the former might is more important than the latter
  • The importance and impact of time in business, why “fast” is never fast enough, and why procrastination is anathema to strong leadership
  • How to shift your corporate culture away from technology creation and towards value creation; how to recognize the unpredictable risks of invention; and why creators, discovers, and inventors are less important to business growth than innovators
  • Why social media has yet to reach its ultimate business potential and represents a massive profit opportunity beyond a mere advertising platform for the right innovator
